Start of the restoration for the

Ed. Pfeifer & Son organ in Serbin Texas.

The organ with 10 stops for one Manual and pedal board was built ca. 1904 from Edward Pfeifer in Austin, Texas. Pfeifer emigrated from Germany and had training as an organbuilder in Dessau. Before he came to America he had built organs in Germany.

Since several years I have been tuning the organ and had repaired the instrument on several occasions.  During my visits I found always mechanical problems which there part of the reason why the organ was so hard to play and why some of the pipes sounded when they should be silent.  In addition, the organ had a lot of dust inside so that the pipes did not speak correctly.

The support for the windchests was too weak that it started to collapse.  Even though the organ was somehow still playable, the overall restoration is the best way to repair all pipes and the hundreds of mechanical parts in the organ.

The restoration of the instrument will prevent further damage to the organ, and most importantly return it to a fuller and more interesting sound.  In general the Ed. Pfeifer & Son organ is well constructed and the disposition of stops well suited for the church. The organ is a significant historic treasure and will, with my restoration, preserved in its integrity.

I work for several Wendish churches in Texas. As a German organ builder, it is a special pleasure for me to work in an area of Texas with such a strong German history, and where this heritage is so well preserved.
